Independent controller units with independent rule execution capability critical for IOT applications

IOT systems should be independent in its capability to operate without any external dependence. Hence the controllers need to have intelligence to execute rules and escalate automatically as needed.

Ideally, IOT system should be independent in its capability to deliver its functionalities without any external dependence. The controllers should have intelligence to execute rules and escalate automatically as needed. The system should also have capability to store the data and transmit as and when the communication is established. Automatic self-correction and high fault tolerance is also a must for such systems.

The design of Internet of things focuses on bandwidth, local processing, independent local operation, local data storage, authenticated override from remote location, data communication, etc. Security of course being the primary concern.

Considering the above design criteria, the need for an independent system comes into focus. The system must function by itself even if communication is down. And also protect itself from any attacks. This is possible only if the individual systems have the required intelligence and independence.

Normally, local unit consists of several controllers and data collation and actuator units. To have an effective system at a location, it is necessary to decentralize the process and have intelligent units with their own decision making capability. The capability for decision making and rule execution eliminates the need for a central processing unit. Further, this will support adding of more systems. It helps to localize and isolate error conditions and maximizes up time.

At the same the systems should escalate to a central or a designated system and allow external over ride as per design.
